• Historically, this psalm may have been written to celebrate the bringing of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). This psalm may also have a prophetic application (related to Jesus Christ), but that is not directly stated in these verses.

• Our focus will be mainly on the first few verses, which describe various things about the earth and God's relationship to it.

Psa 24:1 The earth is Yahweh's, with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell therein. Psa 24:2 For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.	The earth and everything in it belongs to God. (That includes us.) He the maker of it all. God and Creation Earth - The focus is on the dry land (the inhabited earth - as opposed to the oceans and seas), and specifically its surface. This land "came out" of the waters on the third day of creation. Earth and Sea Day 3 of Creation Though most of the water under the earth is now in the oceans (because of the Flood), even today, there is water under the earth's surface (mostly in porous rock). Psa 24:3 Who may ascend to Yahweh's hill? Who may stand in his holy place? Psa 24:4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully. Psa 24:5 He shall receive a blessing from Yahweh, righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psa 24:6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek your face--even Jacob. Selah.	Though Yahweh owns all the land/earth, there is a special place on this land/earth, called his "holy place." The Dwelling Place of God Who can approach God at this "holy place"? Only the righteous. Psa 24:7 Lift up your heads, you gates! Be lifted up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. Psa 24:8 Who is the King of glory? Yahweh strong and mighty, Yahweh mighty in battle. Psa 24:9 Lift up your heads, you gates; yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. Psa 24:10 Who is this King of glory? Yahweh of Armies is the King of glory! Selah.	Prepare to meet your God! This psalm was written at a time when the visible glory of God was often present in Israel (such as, in the holiest place in the tabernacle).
