Scripture Passage Comments and Links
Psa 146:1 Praise Yah! Praise Yahweh, my soul.

Psa 146:2 While I live, I will praise Yahweh. I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.

Praise to God!
  • Worship - the expression of the psalmist's heart.
Psa 146:3 Don't put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help.

Psa 146:4 His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish.

Don't put your trust in humans! When they die, everything you trusted dies with them.

Psa 146:6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever;

Trust in the one who made all things! Those who do so are blessed. (Some of the blessings are described in the following section. These blessings are present because of the nature of the one they are trusting!)

He "keeps truth" - a reference to his faithfulness. He is trustworthy!

Psa 146:7 who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. Yahweh frees the prisoners.

Psa 146:8 Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind. Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down. Yahweh loves the righteous.

What is this trustworthy God like? Everything that a trustworthy ruler should be! Some examples (including some characteristics that only God can do)...
Psa 146:10 Yahweh will reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise Yah! He will rule forever! This stands in contrast to the temporary nature of human rule (v. 3).
