1 Samuel (Bible)

From Eco-Bible 1

Events during the lives of the prophet Samuel and King Saul; also the life of David before he became king.

Relationship to other Old Testament historical books

  • Originally, 1 and 2 Samuel were combined as one book, and 1 and 2 Kings were combined as one book. This collection of books provides an account of the history of Israel, from the time of the prophet Samuel, to the exile in Babylon.
  • 1 and 2 Chronicles provides a separate, shorter account of this history, with a somewhat different emphasis.
  • The death of King Saul is one of the few events recorded in 1 Samuel that is also mentioned in 1 Chronicles (in chapter 10).
