Genesis (Bible)

The book of Genesis is a collection of historical accounts of various events from the creation of the world to the time that Israel began a 400-year stay in Egypt. Yet even though these accounts could be considered "separate," they are also intrinsically connected: The message of the individual accounts fits together as a unified whole.

The first chapter records events that, for the most part, would not have been witnessed by humans.
Each of the other historical accounts would have been witnessed by humans (except perhaps a few details in chapter 2). Most of these begin with with some type indicator, such as: "This is the history (or the generations) of..."


  • Here is an experimental "prototype" for an outline of the book of Genesis: Genesis Outline. It is not complete, but is included here as a reminder or suggestion, in case a project of this scope were to be done at some point in the future.
