Ecclesiastes (Bible)

The book of Ecclesiastes is about truth. It explores, truthfully, the significance and meaning of life.

It's truthful conclusion is this: If our basis for living is found in this world - if our focus is just on "life under the sun" ... then there is no lasting significance or meaning.

Why all this emphasis on the word "truth"? Because many people misunderstand this book, and think it is "negative" and "pessimistic." Or they think that the perspective of this book is the "imperfect best" that humans can come up with, on their own - perhaps having value only because of some verses in the last chapter (which tell us to focus on God).

In reality, this book presents God's perspective on life: Certain ways of living have more practical value than others, even if you look no further than this life. However, the things of life are without lasting significance, if you ignore God!

The entire book is relevant to this study; but a few passages that have a special significance to it have been selected.
