2 Chronicles (Bible)

1 and 2 Chronicles presents a summary of Israel's past, starting at the beginning (with genealogical records going back to Adam), and ending at the time of Israel's return from their exile in Babylon.

Relationship to other Old Testament historical books

  • The books of 1 and 2 Samuel, and 1 and 2 Kings, provide a more in-depth account of the history of Israel, from the time of the prophet Samuel, to the exile in Babylon. The emphasis in those books is somewhat different.
  • 2 Chronicles begins with the reign of Solomon, corresponding to where 1 Kings begins. The first 20 chapters (and a few verses in chapter 21) parallel 1 Kings, and the rest of the book parallels 2 Kings.
