Widows and Orphans

In that culture, widows and orphans were some the most weak & helpless of people, often taken advantage of, with few people willing to take care of them.

- Exo 22:22 "You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child. (Punishment also mentioned.)
- Psa 146:9 Yahweh ... upholds the fatherless and widow,
- Isa 1:17 Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow."
- Because they weren't doing these things, God was opposed to their religious activities.
- Isa 10:1-2 - Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees; to deprive the needy from justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
