- A providential miracle of nature to warn the people of their sin.
Details and/or Comments
- The people wanted a king to rule them instead of God. They got a king, but God sent thunder (a severe storm) to destroy their crops, because of their wickedness.
- Though their motives were wicked, God would use the existence of a king to accomplish good. Ultimately it would result in a descendant of David (Jesus Christ) who would reign as king forever over the world. (This fact would not be clearly understood until many centuries later.)
