Summary

  • Claim: God punishes the evil and rewards the righteous.

Details and/or Comments

  • This is half of the issue. The other half focuses on the injustice that exists at the present time. Though the above statement is generally true at the present - see the book of Proverbs - there are many things that will have to wait until the final Day of Justice, to be completely reconciled with that statement.

Scripture

Job 4:7-9

Scripture Passage Comments and Links
Job 4:7 "Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

Job 4:8 According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.

Job 4:9 By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.

Claim by one of Job's friends: It is the wicked, not the upright, who perish. "You reap what you sow"; you get what you deserve.

This statement - which in some respects is accurate (at least in the long term) - was being misapplied to Job.

The real issues had to do with: 1) injustice and 2) trust in God.
