Events after the death of Judah's King Jehoshaphat, ending with the captivity in Babylon.
Relationship to other Old Testament historical books
- Originally, 1 and 2 Samuel were combined as one book, and 1 and 2 Kings were combined as one book. This collection of books provides an account of the history of Israel, from the time of the prophet Samuel, to the exile in Babylon.
- 1 and 2 Chronicles provides a separate, shorter account of this history, with a somewhat different emphasis.
- The events described in 2 Kings parallels the events in 2 Chronicles, beginning a few verses into chapter 21.
