The focus of this page is on the "inhabitants" in what is often called "outer space" - the area between the "sky" where the flying creatures (birds) live and where the heavenly creatures (angels, etc.) live.

See separate categories:

Also (when added): Planets, etc.

Genesis 1:14-19

Basic category: lights ("luminaries")

Where they are: in the expanse of sky

Their purposes:

  • to divide the day from the night;
  • and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years;
  • and let them be for lights in the expanse of sky to give light on the earth;

Subcategories:

  • two great lights:
the greater light to rule the day,
and the lesser light to rule the night.

(Repeat) Where they are: in the expanse of sky

(Repeat) Their purposes (slightly different emphasis):

  • to give light to the earth,
  • to rule over the day and over the night,
  • and to divide the light from the darkness.

Scripture Pages that Link to Here

Genesis 1:1 - 2:3

DAY 4 - Luminaries in the sky - sun, moon, stars. The events on this day would also include the creation of any other objects in space, such as planets, meteors, etc.

Psalm 33:1-22

Psa 33:6 By Yahweh's word, the heavens were made; all their army by the breath of his mouth.
The main emphasis here is on the visible creation, the events described in Genesis 1. The word translated as "army" can sometimes refer to angels and other heavenly beings. But in this context, it probably refers to the stars and other visible inhabitants of the sky - though it doesn't necessarily exclude invisible entities!
