Note the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge involves knowing facts; wisdom involves the right use of those facts!

Solomon excelled in wisdom, far beyond others. (Examples of others are given.)

Job 36:26 - 38:1

Job 37:24 Therefore men revere him. Doesn't he regard those who are wise of heart? [OR: He doesn't have regard for those who are wise in (their own) hearts.]"

Proverbs 21:30

Pro 21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.

Ecclesiastes 1:1-18

Ecc 1:17-18 I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also was a chasing after wind. For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.
Even so, in chapter 2, we learn that wisdom is better than madness and folly.
Sorrow comes with wisdom. The wise understand that the things mentioned in the previous verses are true. (No wonder living just for "this world" makes no sense! It's meaningless!)

Ecclesiastes 2:1-26

Two lifestyles are examined in this passage - a wasteful lifestyle (focus on pleasure and entertainment), and the productive lifestyle (focus on accomplishment and its benefits). Both are evaluated in this chapter, and wisdom is the guides the evaluations. The productive lifestyle proves to be the wise one, and the wasteful lifestyle proves to be foolish.

Ecclesiastes 8:1-8

Wisdom will affect a person's entire attitude toward life (as well as affecting his actions).
Application of this principle to the issue of obedience of authority: Obedience will not always be easy, and at times it may even be quite unpleasant. But wisdom will help you in determining how to respond the right way.
Responding with wisdom is contrasted to rebellion and disobedience - will get you into trouble (and possible death).

Ecclesiastes 9:7 - 10:1

An illustration of wisdom saving a city from destruction - it demonstrates the principle that wisdom is the best choice. An event similar to this happened during the life of King David, and is described in 2 Samuel 20:16-22.
