Unexpected things happen, when a person decides to follow Jesus. Admittedly, the effects of this decision will be different for different people; but in any case, something will happen. The method of being a disciple may vary from person to person, but the expression of God's love toward others - even toward those who are "unloveable" - will be a common theme for all.

  For me, perhaps it could be in described this way: There was a time that my best friends would talk about the need to make a spiritual impact on the city... while they themselves were retreating into the suburbs. Today, my best friends are the very people the others would talk about, while trying to get away from them.
