Dishonest weights and balances are used for cheating and defrauding other people.
Honest weights and balances are a reflection of God's character; so he utterly detests it when they are dishonest.

Leviticus 19 (selected verses)
- Lev 19:35 " 'You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity.
- YOU MUST NOT HAVE: Varying weights and measures, so that you can defraud others to your own advantage. / YOU MUST HAVE: Accurate weights and measures.
- WHY? 1) Long life in the land; and 2) God detests all who do such dishonest things.
- Pro 11:1 A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.
- Pro 16:11 Honest balances and scales are Yahweh's; all the weights in the bag are his work.
- Pro 20:10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.
- Pro 20:23 Yahweh detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
- Context: A description of the sins of Israel. The items mentioned here are related to economics - specifically, the wicked means by which they obtained their "treasures." This included dishonest measures (ephah = a dry measure of approx. 6 gallons), scales and weights - all intended for cheating the customer.
Also verses (to be processed) in Ezekiel & Amos.
