The emphasis here is on God fighting for Israel. The people needed to trust him, rather than trusting in their own resources.

The general concept of God taking care of his people: God Takes Care of Israel.

Exodus 14:13-31

Exo 14:13-14 - Moses said to the people, "Don't be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still."
(In Exodus 15:1-21, Israel gives God credit for what happened.)

Deuteronomy 20:1-20

(v. 1-4) Don't be afraid of the enemy, because it will actually be God who is fighting for you.

Numbers 13 & 14 (selected)

Num 14:8 If Yahweh delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
Note the contrasting views between Caleb (and Joshua) and the 10 other spies: Num 13:30-31 - Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. But the men who went up with him said, We aren't able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
The people weren't willing to trust God. So when they later tried to fight in their own strength, they lost the battle: Num 14:45 - Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.

Deuteronomy 7:1-26

Deu 7:23 But Yahweh your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they be destroyed. (Etc.)

Deuteronomy 9:1-29

Deu 9:3 Know therefore this day, that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you: so you shall drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.
(v. 4-6) God would do this not because they were righteous (which they weren't), but because the nations in that land were wicked... also because of promises he made to their ancestors.

Isaiah 30:1-33

Isa 30:32 Every stroke of the rod of punishment, which Yahweh will lay on him, will be with the sound of tambourines and harps. He [God] will fight with them in battles, brandishing weapons.

Isaiah 31:1-9

God, not Egypt, is the one who will protect Jerusalem. (He will also judge Israel - see nearby verses.)
Isa 31:8 "The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor." - God will fight them, without human help.

Deuteronomy 2 & 3 (selected)

Deu 3:21-22 - I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to these two kings: so shall Yahweh do to all the kingdoms where you go over. You shall not fear them; for Yahweh your God, he it is who fights for you.

1 Samuel 14:1-23

God had already promised (many times in the past) that he would do the fighting (whether or not people were also involved). Now (for Jonathan and his armor-bearer) it was simply a matter of finding out if this was the right moment... and if so, of trusting God to do what he promised he would do.
Already, before they have any idea what the outcome will be, Jonathan acknowledges that any victory will not be to his credit, but to God. (He was just being honest.)
