Scripture Pages that Link to Here

Genesis 4:1-26

Gen 4:14 - [Cain said] "... I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me." Even though capital punishment has not been commanded by God (that comes in Genesis 9), Cain knew that he deserved death.

Genesis 9:1-29

The reason that killing humans is different from the killing of any other species isn't because humans don't like being killed (or some other human-centered reason). Rather, it is because humans bear the image of the living God. Because of this, even animals who habitually kill humans are to be put to death. Though people have chosen to reject this command, it hasn't changed! [Further details, and the distinction between deliberate and accidental killings, are explained in the Law, which God gave to Israel through Moses.]

Exodus 21:12-36

Regulations that show when capital punishment is required for a violation of "Do not kill."

Deuteronomy 13:1-18

All false prophets must be put to death. Even if those who are close family members.
Also, any city that abandons the true God must be totally and permanently destroyed.

Deuteronomy 21:22-23

When a person is put to death by hanging, don't leave the body unburied overnight. Doing this defiles the land.

Deuteronomy 24:6, 10-22

When sins are deserving of death, each must pay for his own sins.

1 Kings 18:1-46

1Ki 18:40 "... and Elijah said to them, Take the prophets of Baal; don't let one of them escape. They took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and killed them there." This was done in obedience to God's commands in Deuteronomy 13:1-18.
