Exodus 22:21-27

Exo 22:25-27 - If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest. If you take your neighbor's garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down, for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.


Exodus 23:1-9

Do not favor a poor man in his cause. / Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.


Exodus 23:10-12

Exo 23:10-11 "For six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in its increase, but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the animal of the field shall eat. In like manner you shall deal with your vineyard and with your olive grove.


Leviticus 19 (selected verses)

The moral obligation to allow the poor to gather from your harvest - along the edges, etc. Since this requires work, it will distinguish between the poor and the lazy.


Job 34:10-30

God destroys and replaces the wicked, because they ignored him, and afflicted the poor.


Psalm 72:1-20

They are described as God's poor. The righteous king will judge them with righteousness.
Psa 72:12-14 - For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper. He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.


Proverbs 14:31

Pro 14:31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

Deu 15:11 For the poor will never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.


add Proverbs 19:17

Pro 19:17 He who has pity on the poor [= kindness toward them] lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.


Isaiah 10:1-23

Isa 10:1-2a - Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees; to deprive the needy from justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, ...


Isaiah 25:1-12

Isa 25:4 For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat.
God has exalted and given protection to those who were once oppressed by the oppressors. God is a refuge for the poor and needy.
