Deuteronomy 13:1-18

When a prophet's sign does come true, his message will determine whether he is a true or false prophet. (False prophets may give signs that come true!)

Judges 6:1-24, 36-40

Gideon asked for signs from God:
  1. To confirm the identity of the speaker (v. 17+).
  2. To verify that he understood what God was planning to do through him (v. 36+).
Note Gideon's attitude! He wasn't merely trying to be entertained by God. Nor was he trying to "test" God.

Exodus 3:12 - Exo 3:12 God said, "Certainly I will be with you [when you go into Pharaoh]. This will be the token [or: "sign"] to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain."
