The main focus here is not on asking God for or about something. Rather, it is on the type questioning that occurs in the context of arrogance or pride.

  • This type of attitude also exists when a person makes demands of God.

Job 34:10-30

If God chooses to remain silent for a while (instead of judging the wicked the way we think he should), who has a right to condemn?

Job 38:1-38

In this passage, God questions Job. This is the only appropriate way for it to be done. Job had demanded the opposite - that he be allowed to question God and that God answer him!
(comment) People have asked God legitimate questions, and God has answered. See Habakkuk 1:2+ and 1:12+, for two examples. But in Habakkuk, the focus of the questions (and the attitude expressed by them) was totally different from what Job was doing.
