- Gen 3:15 I will put enmity between you [Serpent/Devil] and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel." The first expression of a future hope, which eventually pointed to Jesus (though they didn't know all the details at that time).
- Gen 9:26 [Noah] said, "Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem.: Some believe that the phrase "the God of Shem" indicates that the promised "seed of the woman" (Genesis 3:15) would be from his line. Whether or not this is the intention of the phrase, it becomes clear at a later date that he did come from the line of Shem.

- About Melchizedek king of Salem. Nothing else is known about him. Some suspect that he was actually Shem! (People often had more than one name.) He (and this event) become quite significant, when the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, links Melchizedek to prophecy (Psalm 110:4).
