Though described as "mythical," these creatures (as described here) may have been based on actual sea creatures, perhaps extinct, who's physical characteristics have become exaggerated down through time.

"Rahab" - a mythical sea creature; used here to symbolize Egypt, but described as "sitting powerless." (Also the name of a person, Joshua 2.)
