- Every 50th year - proclaim freedom:
- Slaves released (except for foreign slaves) - because you are God's servants.
- Land returned to its original owners (except in walled cities) - but remember that, ultimately, the land is owned by God. (You are "foreigners.")
- This year is to be considered holy - set apart as special.
- In Israel, possession of land was to remain permanently with the family. It could not be permanently sold; it could only be leased, and then returned to the original owner at the Jubilee.
