Joshua 11:4-9

God commanded that they hamstring the horses. This would prevent their use in battle.
NOTE: Israel was not to use horses in battle - at least large numbers of them, Deuteronomy 17:16. (They were to trust in the Living God, instead.) But eventually (during the times of the kings), they disobeyed this command.

Job 38:39-41; 39:1-30

This passage gives a description of a spirited war-horse; whose strength is given by God. Various metaphors are used to describe the battle.

Isaiah 31:1-9

Woe to people who look to humans (and their horses) for help, and NOT to God! How horrible it will be for them!
We are to trust God, not horses.
In Israel's case, both of these actions - returning to Egypt and acquiring warhorses - were forbidden (Deuteronomy 17:16). So this was a "double" sin.
