Deuteronomy 13:1-18

Two ways to identify a false prophet:
  1. The sign or wonder doesn't come to pass.
  2. He tries to get you to follow other gods.
They are trying to get you to abandon the God who bought you out of slavery.
You must put to death false prophets, as well as those who follow them.

Deuteronomy 18:15-22

False prophets must be put to death.
"... when a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shall not be afraid of him."
Also includes those "who shall speak in the name of other gods (v. 20)."

Micah 2:1-5

The response of the false prophets to what Micah said (Micah 2:6) - "Don't prophesy!" They prophesy. "Don't prophesy about these things. Disgrace won't overtake us." (They are more concerned about sounding "positive" - using pleasant words - than about being truthful.)
