Matthew 23:34-25:46

Mark 12:41-44; 13:1-37

Luke 21:1-36

Mat 23:34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;

Mat 23:35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.

Mat 23:36 Most assuredly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Mat 23:37 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not! Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.

Mat 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'"

Mar 12:41 Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury.

Luk 21:1 He looked up,

Many who were rich cast in much.

Mar 12:42 A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.

and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury.

Luk 21:2 He saw a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins.

Mar 12:43 He called his disciples to himself, and said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury,

Luk 21:3 He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them,

Mar 12:44 for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on."

Luk 21:4 for all these put in gifts for God from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on."

Mat 24:1 Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.

Mar 13:1 As he went out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Teacher, see what kind of stones and what kind of buildings!"

Luk 21:5 As some were talking about the temple and how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts,

Mat 24:2 But he answered them, "Don't you see all of these things? Most assuredly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down."

Mar 13:2 Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone on another, which will not be thrown down."

he said,

Luk 21:6 "As for these things which you see, the days will come, in which there will not be left here one stone on another that will not be thrown down."

Mat 24:3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately,

Mar 13:3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,

saying, "Tell us, when will these things be?

Mar 13:4 "Tell us, when will these things be?

Luk 21:7 They asked him, "Teacher, so when will these things be?

What is the sign that these things are all about to be fulfilled?"

What is the sign that these things are about to happen?"

What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Mat 24:4 Jesus answered them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray.

Mar 13:5 Jesus, answering, began to tell them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray.

Luk 21:8 He said, "Watch out that you don't get led astray,

Mat 24:5 For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will lead many astray.

Mar 13:6 For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and will lead many astray.

 for many will come in my name, saying, 'I AM,'

and, 'The time is at hand.' Therefore don't follow them.

Mat 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled,

Mar 13:7 "When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don't be troubled.

Luk 21:9 When you hear of wars and disturbances, don't be terrified,

for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.

For those must happen, but the end is not yet.

for these things must happen first, but the end won't come immediately."

Mat 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;

Mar 13:8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

Luk 21:10 Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.

There will be earthquakes in various places. There will be famines and troubles.

Luk 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines,

and plagues in various places. There will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

Mat 24:8 But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

These things are the beginning of birth pains.

Luk 21:12 But before all these things,

Mar 13:9 But watch yourselves,

Mat 24:9 Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake.

 for they will deliver you up to councils. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for my sake,

they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name's sake.

Mat 24:10 Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.

Mat 24:11 Many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray.

Mat 24:12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.

Mat 24:13 But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.

[v. 13b, below]

[v. 19, below]

Mat 24:14 This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations,

for a testimony to them.

Mar 13:10 The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.

Luk 21:13 It will turn out as a testimony for you.

[[Matthew 10:19-22

Mat 10:19 But when they deliver you up, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.

Mat 10:20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

Mar 13:11 When they lead you away and deliver you up, don't be anxious beforehand, or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Luk 21:14 Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how to answer,

Luk 21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

Mat 10:21 "Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Mar 13:12 "Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Mar 13:13 You will be hated by all men for my name's sake,

Luk 21:16 You will be handed over even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. Some of you they will cause to be put to death.

Luk 21:17 You will be hated by all men for my name's sake.

Mat 10:22 You will be hated by all men for my name's sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.]]

[v. 13, above]

 but he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.

Luk 21:18 Not a hair of your head will perish.

Luk 21:19 By your endurance you will win your lives.

[v. 14] and then the end will come. .

Luk 21:20 "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is at hand.

Mat 24:15 "When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

Mar 13:14 But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not (let the reader understand),

Mat 24:16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains,

Luk 21:21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Mat 24:17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take out things that are in his house.

Mar 13:15 and let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house.

Let those who are in the midst of her depart.

Mat 24:18 Let him who is in the field not return back to get his clothes.

Mar 13:16 Let him who is in the field not return back to take his cloak.

Let those who are in the country not enter therein.

Luk 21:22 For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Mat 24:19 But woe to those who are with child and to nursing mothers in those days!

Mar 13:17 But woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babies in those days!

Luk 21:23 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days!

Mat 24:20 Pray that your flight will not be in the winter,

Mar 13:18 Pray that your flight won't be in the winter.

nor on a Sabbath,

Mat 24:21 for then there will be great oppression,

Mar 13:19 For in those days there will be oppression,

For there will be great distress

 in the land, and wrath to this people.

such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be.

such as there has not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.

Luk 21:24 They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Mat 24:22 Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened.

Mar 13:20 Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

Mat 24:23 "Then if any man tells you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or, 'There,' don't believe it.

Mar 13:21 Then if anyone tells you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, there!' don't believe it.

Mat 24:24 For there will arise false christs, and false prophets, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Mar 13:22 For there will arise false christs and false prophets, and will show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones.

Mat 24:25 "Behold, I have told you beforehand.

Mar 13:23 But you watch. "Behold, I have told you all things beforehand.

Mat 24:26 If therefore they tell you, 'Behold, he is in the wilderness,' don't go out; 'Behold, he is in the inner chambers,' don't believe it.

Mat 24:27 For as the lightning comes forth from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Mat 24:28 For wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures be gathered together.

Mat 24:29 But immediately after the oppression of those days,

Mar 13:24 But in those days, after that oppression,

Luk 21:25 There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars;

the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;

the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light,

Mar 13:25 the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.

and on the earth anxiety of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the waves;

Luk 21:26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Mat 24:30 and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the tribes of the earth will mourn,

and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.

Mar 13:26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

Luk 21:27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Mat 24:31 He will send out his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

Mar 13:27 Then he will send out his angels, and will gather together his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the sky.

Luk 21:28 But when these things begin to happen, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near."

Mat 24:32 "Now from the fig tree learn this parable. When its branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near.

Mar 13:28 "Now from the fig tree, learn this parable. When the branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near;

Luk 21:29 He told them a parable. "See the fig tree, and all the trees.

Luk 21:30 When they are already budding, you see it and know by your own selves that the summer is already near.

Mat 24:33 Even so you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

Mar 13:29 even so you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that it is near, at the doors.

Luk 21:31 Even so you also, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near.

Mat 24:34 Most assuredly I tell you, this generation will not pass away, until all these things are accomplished.

Mar 13:30 Most assuredly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen.

Luk 21:32 Most assuredly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things are accomplished.

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Mar 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Luk 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.

Luk 21:34 "So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life,

and that day will come on you suddenly.

Luk 21:35 For it will come like a snare on all those who dwell on the surface of all the earth.

Mat 24:36 But no one knows of that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Mar 13:32 But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Mat 24:37 "As the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Mat 24:38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,

Mat 24:39 and they didn't know until the flood came, and took them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Mat 24:40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one will be left;

Mat 24:41 two women grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left.

Mat 24:42 Watch therefore,

Mar 13:33 Watch, keep alert, and pray;

Luk 21:36 Therefore be watchful all the time,

asking that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

for you don't know in what hour your Lord comes.

 for you don't know when the time is.

Mat 24:43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

Mat 24:44 Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don't expect, the Son of Man will come.

Mat 24:45 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household, to give them their food in due season?

Mar 13:34 "It is like a man, traveling to another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.

Mat 24:46 Blessed is that servant whom his lord finds doing so when he comes.

Mat 24:47 Most assuredly I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.

Mat 24:48 But if that evil servant should say in his heart, 'My lord is delaying his coming,'

Mat 24:49 and begins to beat his fellow-servants, and eat and drink with the drunken,

Mat 24:50 the lord of that servant will come in a day when he doesn't expect it, and in an hour when he doesn't know it,

Mat 24:51 and will cut him in pieces, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.

Mar 13:35 Watch therefore, for you don't know when the lord of the house is coming, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning;

Mar 13:36 lest coming suddenly he might find you sleeping.

Mar 13:37 What I tell you, I tell all: Watch."

[Matthew 25 contains instructional material that is not found in the other gospels.]

Mat 25:1 "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Mat 25:2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

Mat 25:3 Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them,

Mat 25:4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Mat 25:5 Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

Mat 25:6 But at midnight there was a cry, 'Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!'

Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

Mat 25:8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, 'What if there isn't enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'

Mat 25:10 While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

Mat 25:11 Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'

Mat 25:12 But he answered, 'Most assuredly I tell you, I don't know you.'

Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for you don't know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Mat 25:14 "For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.

Mat 25:15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.

Mat 25:16 Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.

Mat 25:17 In like manner he also who got the two gained another two.

Mat 25:18 But he who received the one went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

Mat 25:19 "Now after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reconciled accounts with them.

Mat 25:20 He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.'

Mat 25:21 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

Mat 25:22 "He also who got the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.'

Mat 25:23 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

Mat 25:24 "He also who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter.

Mat 25:25 I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.'

Mat 25:26 "But his lord answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn't sow, and gather where I didn't scatter.

Mat 25:27 You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest.

Mat 25:28 Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.

Mat 25:29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away.

Mat 25:30 Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

Mat 25:31 "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.

Mat 25:32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

Mat 25:33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Mat 25:34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

Mat 25:35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;

Mat 25:36 naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.'

Mat 25:37 "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?

Mat 25:38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?

Mat 25:39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'

Mat 25:40 "The King will answer them, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'

Mat 25:41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;

Mat 25:42 for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink;

Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'

Mat 25:44 "Then they will also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?'

Mat 25:45 "Then he will answer them, saying, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of the least of these, you didn't do it to me.'

Mat 25:46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
