Scripture Pages that Link to Here

Genesis 12:1-10

During the time of Abraham. Famines - a common occurrence at that time. Other references to famines are found in the book of Genesis- including the famine that resulted in Israel spending over 400 years in Egypt. (See chapters 26 and 41.)

Genesis 26:1-33

Famine during the days of Isaac. Contention over "water rights."

(Another reference to a famine in Gen. 41.)

Leviticus 26:1-45

One of the results for continued rebellion - hunger... famine... starvation.

Deuteronomy 28:1-68

One of the results for continued rebellion.

Judges 6:1-24, 36-40

The Midianites plundered or destroyed everything that Israel had as food, or could use for growing it (such as the animals used for agricultural purposes). This resulted in a lack of food. We could probably call it a "famine"; but it was "people-induced," rather than environmentally caused.

1 Kings 18:1-46

Drought, resulting in famine. It came to Israel because of the sins of Ahab and his family, whose example the people followed.

2 Kings 6 & 7 (selected)

Extreme famine because of being besieged by the Syrians. (God warned them this would happen, in Deuteronomy 28.)

1 Kings 9:1-9 & 2 Chronicles 7:12-22

Famine implied: If God sends drought and locusts (because of their wickedness)... and they repent, God will heal the land.

Psalm 33:1-22

Psa 33:18-19 Behold, Yahweh's eye is on those who fear him (rather than trusting in their own resources), on those who hope in his loving kindness; to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.

Psalm 105:1-45

God providentially prepared Joseph, in order that he might rescue his family from the famine. This was one of the ways God kept his promise to Abraham, in what we call the Abrahamic Covenant.

Psalm 107:1-43

(God's judgment) Psa 107:33-34 He turns rivers into a desert, water springs into a thirsty ground, and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

Isaiah 30:1-33

The results of their repentance: God will send rain and bountiful blessings. The very ecosystem will be affected.
Example: Food Abundance (enough for man and beast alike) - instead of Famine.

Isaiah 51:19-23

Israel's "desolation and destruction"... included famine.
