- An occasion in which many of the Israelite leaders saw God.

- The Ten Commandments - God wrote them on the stone tablets.
About Seeing God (Physically)
- The priests and elders were permitted to see God from a distance (with God's permission). Moses was allowed to go closer to God.
- Instead of being killed, they were able to celebrate.
- Those at the base of the mountain could see God's glory, but his being was hidden from their sight.

They saw God; he did not destroy them.
This does NOT mean they saw the totality of God's being – God in all his glory. According to Exodus 33:20, that would have been fatal. |
| Exo 24:12 Yahweh said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them." | Moses was to approach God and receive the tables of stone with the law written on them.
