In the New Testament - The Greek word "epithumia" can be translated as either "lust" or "desire." Translators will choose one or the other, depending on the context, and which they think best fits. Or, if they do use the word "desire," they may add the word "evil," to qualify it.

However, this can be unfortunate, because it can be misleading, because of the way people often use those words. There is a tendency to think of "lust" as referring to really evil desires... and to think that any other type of desire is acceptable. The problem with this thinking is that any type of desire that preoccupies our minds - whether or not we call it "lustful" or "evil" - is sinful! All desires, if not brought into submission under Christ, can be damning.

2 Peter 3:1-7

"In the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts, ..." - They basically do as they please, anything they "desire" to do.
