Ecclesiastes 2:1-26

When comparing the two lifestyles, the lifestyle guided by wisdom (v. 4-9) is better than the lifestyle guided by folly (v. 1-3). However, in the end, both people (the wise and the foolish) die and are forgotten; so there is no lasting meaning under the sun in either case. (The matter of eternal destinies is not in focus here!)

Ecclesiastes 3:1-22

One of the consequences of human sin is the fact that we will someday die. In this matter, we are no better than the animals. Though we bear the Image of God (which animals don't), our bodies will return to the dust just like theirs do. (The focus here is not on what happens after death.)
v. 21-22 - Death is a barrier that prevents us who are living "under the sun" from seeing what happens after death. It also prevents those who have died from seeing anything that happens "under the sun."

Ecclesiastes 9:7 - 10:1

The term "death," as used in Ecclesiastes, refers to the body becoming a corpse. What happens to the spirit after death is not the main focus - though it is mentioned, directly or indirectly, in a few places (such as in Ecclesiastes 12:7).

Ecclesiastes 12:7

Ecc 12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
