- The curse on Canaan (and his offspring). Had the curse been directed toward Ham, rather than toward Canaan, innocent people would have also been cursed. Three of Ham's offspring did not share his perverse inclinations... but Canaan did.
- This curse was not a mere expression of anger; it was prophetic in nature.
Genesis 10 - lists some of Canaan's offspring.
- Abraham's offspring will return to Canaan, and God will give the land to them. But they must wait for 400 years, because the people of the land (i.e., the Amorites) aren't yet wicked enough to deserve being destroyed.
- God calls Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt. The 400 years are now over.
- The nations God will cast out before Israel: the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite (seven nations greater and mightier than Israel).
